Job Description


Summary/Objective

The Paraeducator IV/V works within a special education classroom, under the supervision of a special education teacher, providing general classroom support or one-on-one assistance to a student. Paraeducator IV/V positions exist within schools throughout the district.

 

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions:

  1. Responding to all internal and external customers, as it relates to the job, in a prompt, efficient, friendly, and patient manner
  2. Instructing, within close proximity to the teacher, individual students or small groups of students to reinforce material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
  3. Assisting students with various physical, emotional and educational needs adhering to guidelines of student I.E.P
  4. Assisting with assessments, grading papers and completing records under the supervision of the certified teacher
  5. Distributing and collecting workbooks, papers and other materials for instruction
  6. Copying, collating and filing worksheets and requested documents
  7. Developing and creating bulletin boards, signs, borders and classroom displays
  8. Operating and caring for equipment used for instructional purposes
  9. Assisting with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch/breakfast periods, field trips, crossing guard, bus assistant, after school activities, school gate duty
  10. Alerting the teacher to any problem or special information about a student
  11. Maintaining the confidentiality of protected student and staff member information even after no longer employed
  12. Maintaining knowledge of and adheres to all policies, regulations, and rules
  13. Performing related duties as assigned in a safe and prudent manner
  14. One-on-one assistance to a student
  15. May provide support to students requiring daily care in the areas of toileting and special feeding
  16. May work with students with severe behavior problems

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

At-Will Notice of Employment does not provide a guarantee of a particular schedule of work or a minimum number of days or hours.

These are 9-month, 32-hour per week positions. This position is eligible for medical benefits.  The employee will work eight hours per day Monday through Thursday during core business hours. 

 

 Required Education and Experience

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. AA degree, 60 college credits from an accredited university, or satisfactory results on an Arizona state-approved competency exam (ParaPro)

Preferred Education and Experience

Working with students or children.

 

Required Certifications/Licenses

May require First Aid/CPR certification and/or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training

 

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain a Fingerprint Clearance Card with an IVP number through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Kingman Unified School District #20 is a preschool through twelfth grade public school district. The attendance boundaries are J-shaped, reaching as far as the Colorado River, and serving over 3,000 square miles.

The district has eleven school sites with a total enrollment of over 6,800 students. Class sizes average (student – teacher) 32-1 High School, 30-1 Middle School, 27-1 Upper Elem. & 25-1 Lower Elem. KUSD curriculum follows the Arizona Academic Standards. The standards for each grade level are listed in curriculum overviews to guide teachers in classroom instruction.

The district participates in the Arizona Assessment Program, including a comprehensive District Achievement Plan which utilizes both formative and summative assessment in ELA and math. The assessments include but are not limited to: I Ready, formative assessments embedded in the AzCCRS curriculum at all grades, and quarterly benchmark assessments in ELA, math, and science for grades 2-12. We initialize the technology-enhanced computerized version of the Arizona State Standardized assessment called AzMERIT. All students in grades 3-8 take the computer version of AzMERIT for ELA and Math in the spring. Students in grades 9-12 take the computer version of AzMERIT for ELA and Math. In addition, the district employs international and national assessments for Cambridge, AP, and CTE programs.

A full spectrum of Special Education services is provided for students with special needs. We are proud of our many extra-curricular and enrichment programs. All schools share a common commitment to excellence and a safe, positive climate. Parental involvement and diversified programs create accomplishments for everyone. The district employs approximately 400 certified and 445 non-certified personnel. We offer an all-day Kindergarten program in every elementary building, and ½ day Jr. Kindergarten.
